South Stoke 17/07/16

The evening entertainment did not let down with all having fun in Bath; Jon was still feeling rough by match time!  Pete and David opened the batting and a steady start was a good building block for the innings. Pete (13) started to accelerate before be was caught which brought Will out to join his Dad at the crease.  Both were struggling to get the ball away and David was out LBW trying to force the pace with a sweep shot.  Will batted well for his 57 with Tom and the partnership was worth 97 when Will was bowled.  Bob (10no) Joined Tom, before Tom was also bowled for 89.  Simon (5) got another shooter to take out the off stump and Tommy was caught on 16.  Some confusion followed as the players came off as Mike Moore went out to bat with the clock no yet at half past but the innings finished on 242-6.

Following tea, both Shardlows opened the bowling and kept a really tight line.  The breakthrough came when Will took a catch off of David.  Both had respectable figures (David 10-2-18-1, Will 7-1-22-1).  The next wicket was always going to be a big one and it fell to Tommy (who had been hit for 24 in 10 balls).  Mike Moore, almost under the trees, took a splendid catch to put the Wanderers in the driving seat.  Bob turned the screw with 2 more stumpings from Simon and another catch from Will.  Pete deservedly claimed a wicket when Simon took a diving catch down leg-side and Jon finished the innings with 2-3 from 2.2 overs despite Bob putting down a catch at first slip!  A great game of cricket played in a brilliantly friendly atmosphere.

MOM: Mike Moore – a crucial catch under the trees.

Catch of the day: See above!
