Match Report by Mike Moore.

The stand-in Captain (Tom Weld) nominated me as Man of the Match, and then asked me to write the match report. So the match report, from my prospective.

There was a worrying start when I was the only one in the Brace of Pheasants, proffering a nice pint of Flack Manor Double Drop. The only person to talk to was Geoffery the former Plush groundsman.

Geoffery informing me that the pitch was playable and the grass cut, which given the amount of rain which fell on Saturday was surprising. The ground was nicely prepared with a good batting track and fast outfield, allowing many boundaries.

On leaving the Brace I met Mike an Pete who had just arrived,

At the ground the only DWCC player was Mark. We both wondered if we had a team. Eventually there were 7 DWCC and 11 Plush players. Plush loaned DWCC Owen Chubb and T Atkinson. T Atkinson taking on the mantle of wicket keeper.

DWCC lost the Toss and were made to bowl first in a 35 over match.

Mark Hodges opened the bowling and bowled 6 overs for 22. Fred Weld took the other end completing 5 overs for 32 taking one wicket caught by Tommy.

Tommy bowled 7 overs for 30, followed by Owen Chubb’s 7 for 27. Bob then had 6-1-31-3. An excellent 3 wickets with two catches caught by Fred Weld and Mike Moore.

Finally Pete Wood had 4 overs for 32.

The fielding was hit and miss. Whilst 3 catches were taken many more were dropped. Excellent Keeping by T Atkinson, only allowing 1 bye and 1 leg bye.

After 30 overs Plush had only scored 123, a run rate of just over 4. The run rate then picked up with the last over by Fred going for 17, being hit for 2 sixes and a 4.

After the 35 overs, Plush had scored 178 for 4, with 2 retiring having scored 50.

An excellent tea.

Tommy asked Mike M and T Atkinson to open, with Mike taking strike. The first wicket fell at 13. With T Atkinson only scoring 2. Tommy then came in, with Tommy and Mike taking the score to 75 before the fall of Mike’s wicket. Mike scored a six with 4 other boundaries.  Mike on 46 facing a slow spin bowler took a step back to hit a boundary to take his total to 50 for his first half century for DWCC in 29 years. Unfortunately Mike step back took a big swing and knocked over his own stumps.

Fred and Tommy then both scored 50 before retiring.

The final two DWCC batsmen Owen Chubb and Mike Henry completed the innings. During which Owen made Mike Henry run a 5. Off the final ball Owen hit a six to win the match for the Wanderers.

Tommy name Mike Man of the Match and the Catch of the Day was taken by Fred on the Boundary off Bob’s bowling.

Both Teams then retired to The Poacher Inn, proffering a nice pint of Ruddles County and then Scampi and Chips.

A fine day was had by all, who turned up.
