Ibberton 12/06/16

Despite the bad forecast and some drizzle delaying the start by 10 minutes, the match got underway with a much changed Ibberton side batting on a wet and green surface.  Anwaar and Mark opened the bowling in a 35 overs match desperate for early wickets.  Both achieved this due to some fantastic deliveries – Mark achieving some seam movement and Anwaar with superb line and length.  With 3 early wickets things looked up but the number 3 batsman was a great striker of the ball and hit through the line well.  He did offer a chance to long on where Mike Moore had a great attempt but couldn’t hold on to it.  From then on he was hitting out of the ground at will.  David was the only bowler who applied any sort of brakes to the run scoring (7-1-41-2).  The Ibberton total was boosted by some sloppy fielding with numerous ball going through legs for a boundary when only 1 should have been scored.  A tough innings closed (1 over early to get to tea on time as so much time had been lost looking and retrieving balls from adjoining fields) on 280-7 with the number 3 batsman not out 197.

After tea in the village hall the Wanderers innings was to be opened by Simon and Mike Moore but as they were preparing to chase an enormous total, the heavens opened with an almighty downpour that soon had pools of water on the playing surface.  It was clear that even if it stopped (which it didn’t for some time) the game would not be able to be restarted so the match was abandoned.

MOM: Will Foster for some excellent bowling in really tough conditions.

Catch of the day: Mike Moore
