Ibberton 11/06/17

Posted on by Simon

Having elected to bat on the artificial strip at Ibberton, Peter H (22) and Tommy opened the innings with great confidence and put on 46 for the opening stand by great communication and rapid turnover of strike.  Jon Webley (11), after a heavy session at the folk festival, came in at 3 and looked set when he was surprised by a yorker.  Simon and Tommy set about stabilising the innings and kept the scoreboard ticking over with speed between the wickets.  Once Simon passed 50 he really began to accelerate the innings and despatched 4 sixes and 6 fours in his 75 before being stumped with 7 overs left of the innings.  The partnership was worth 124 but set the course of the innings.  Tommy was continuing to work through the innings (having not batted for 9 months) and kept rotating the strike until he was caught.  Bob was not out 11 in a very respectable 229-7.

After a splendid tea by the village hall, Jon (14-1) eventually found his rythmn and was soon unplayable.  At the other end, Pete was bowling really well and his wickets came from a catch by Mark, a sharp catch behind from a top edge and a stumping from Simon.  Mark (3-1) was even more deadly than Jon and only had 2 overs.  Luke (13-2) bowled a really tidy spell applying pressure and was rewarded with a fine catch by Peter H shortly after having dropped one.  There was a wicket for David (5-1) and Tommy (36-1) before Peter H (11-1), the 9th bowler, fininshed the innings.  A DWCC victory by 59 runs and then to the pub which has reopened as The Ibberton.

MOM: Tommy

Catch of the day: Peter
