Fonthill Park 05/09/15

Posted on by Simon

After the two Shardlows (David 22, Will 12) set the innings going steadily, Tommy (53*) and Simon (41) hit the accelerator.  Simon hit some big sixes before a great catch in the covers accounted for him.  Anwar also managed to find some big boundary shots before being caught on 32.  Thomas (a welcome addition following his injury lay-off) hit a quick fire 20 to end the innings on a respectable 182 for 5 from 35 overs.

After tea (Helen’s last tea as host for Fonthill Park) Mark and Will set about getting stuck into the Fonthill top order batsmen.  Both bowled really well but once Will found his radar and started outside off-stump his late swing with the slope of the pitch became unplayable.  His 3-6 from 4 overs alongside a superb run out from David, took the heart out of the hosts’ innings.  Pete allowed the slope to accentuate his leg-breaks and his return (5-0-14-1) was well justified.  Tommy (2-13) and Mike Toms (2-8) came on to wrap up the victory by 118 runs in the glorious September sunshine.

Catch of the day: Mark – for the final wicket – the only catch of the innings.

MOM: Will
