The Wanderers began September with a double-header weekend.

The first fixture was against Fred Weld’s Derwent Globetrotters, a mixture of university friends and extended family.

The teams met at Plush for a 35 over contest, Skip winning the toss and having a bat. The Wanderers innings was given impetus by Tommy Weld (61) and Simon Jones (64) batting at numbers three and four respectively and then an aggressive, unbeaten 50 from Shan, returning to the Wanderer’s ranks from Panthers. A total of 217 for eight in 35 overs was a good effort against a young athletic fielding unit.

After a beautiful tea, the highlight being the scones with jam and cream, not the cheese, Globetrotters set off in pursuit of the imposing total. Pete Fosbury set the tone with an exemplary, tight bowling spell from the village end (seven overs, one for 19), and Shan from the field end was fast and accurate (5 overs, 2 for 11). Farrage and Naylor, batting at two and three scored an excellent 44 and 50 before both were dismissed by David (7 overs, 2 for 34). Lower down the order, batting contributions were hard to come by, Fred Weld got 17 and Grantham 16 as Brett took three for 18. But eventually the Globetrotters were bowled out for 165 in just less than 34 overs to give Dorset Wanderers an excellent win by 52 runs.

Catch of the Day: Brett at square leg to give James Young a wicket and close out the win

Result: Wanderers win by 52 runs
