Bride Vale 24/6/18

Posted on by Simon

On another scorching hot day, Simon lost the toss in a time match and Bride Vale opted to bat.  With the two Fosters opening the attack on a particularly difficult wicket, the emphasis was on length.  Anything short sat up nicely and asked to be hit, but a full-length delivery gripped on the surface and took off and deviated.  Dean (BVCC opener) was nearly c&b first ball to Paul but a few balls later was expertly run out when a leg side bye from Will went past Simon and Mike W chased.  His throw in was off target but went straight to Bob who had a direct hit to take the first wicket.  Will (0-13) struggled a bit to keep a full length as did David (2-36) but Luke (1-23) hit a perfect length getting the ball to rise sharply off the pitch and was unlucky not to get more wickets.  Anwar was the pick of the bowlers, hitting the dodgy patches as well as getting some turn and his 5-23 transformed the innings.  122 seemed a good score given the pitch quality.

After tea, David and Mike W set off on a mission!  When David (8) was c&b the score was 34.  Mike was punishing anything short of a length and Will (44no) was in the same mindset.  Mike (36) was also c&b leaving Anwar (29no) to come in and do what he does best – attack.  A trademark extra-cover drive only resulted in a four, so a hook sent the ball into the next field never to be seen again!  91 runs came from the second 15 overs in a phenomenal show of attacking play.  An 8-wicket victory was sealed before the last hour started!

MOM: Anwar

Catch of the day: Simon – an edge off a wide Anwar delivery

Quote of the day: Mike to David; “we batted really well” after Will and Anwar had pulverised the bowling!
