Bride Vale 02/09/18
September 13, 2018With the arrival of September some warm sunshine bathed the bowl at Little Bredy. Having elected to bat, David and Mike W got proceedings going with David the more attacking at the start. With some variable bounce and some good deliveries, it was a battle for the batting team and the platform for the innings was solid. When David (19) was out LBW in the 25th over, the opening partnership was worth 62. Simon (7) went back to one that cut in and kept low off a divot which brought Chris in on debut, brought in due to injury to Bob. He played big attacking shots from the start and when Mike (37) was bowled, Nipper joined him in equally attacking form and aggressive running between the wickets. The last 10 overs of the Wanderers innings brought up 133 runs! Nipper was caught for 36 which gave Will F the chance to knock a few at the end. Chris played superbly for his 82 not out.
Tea was provided by the Wanderers (many thanks to Carol) and Mark opened the bowling with Paul at the other end. Paul thought he had taken a brilliant c&b – except nobody else saw whether it had been conclusively been held and the Wanderers withdrew the appeal. He did get his wicket shortly afterwards with an LBW right back in front of the stumps. mark bowled a mix of some super length deliveries with ones that were short and sat up waiting to be hit. He got an LBW hit on the foot in the crease and then took a sharp C&B. Will replaced his dad and bowled some great deliveries with some low bounce which was proving difficult to play. His first wicket was a short half tracker that the batsman played an eternity before the ball reached him allowing the ball to drop down onto the middle stump! The next one was a delivery that kept low with the batsman not getting forward giving him no chance to get down to it. Will’s final wicket (20-3) was a brilliant catch at short backward square leg by Mark! Mark continued his unexpected catching phenomenon by taking a low catch out at long-on off PW’s bowling when it appeared odds-on that it would go down! David replaced the tiring Will and his pace and direction was almost unplayable. One delivery jumped high and offered the opportunity to hit – but this was high towards cow corner where Simon took the chance to redeem himself after having dropped a simple catch off PW. The final wicket was a catch at silly point where Nipper had a lid on (having previously missed 2 opportunities at silly square leg the previous over)! DWCC win by 116 runs.
Handshakes all round after a good game and then the opportunity to retire to the pub!
MOM: Chris for his explosive batting
Catch of the day: Remarkably Mark at long-on!
