Kilmington and Stourton 28/07/19

Posted on by Simon

After a plentiful session in the Spread Eagle, the Wanderers found themselves in the field.  The first delivery from Mark appeared to be going for a harmless leg-bye, until the batsmen tried for a second run.  Simon turned and with a direct hit dismissed the opening bat first ball!  Mark was unable to get through the resilient batsmen and had to go off the pitch for a while with a muscular problem.  Zee struggled to make a wrong move from the batsmen on a solid batting track.  David offered something different and then Tommy came on to provide the buffet that brought about the breakthrough when he took a return catch.  David took the next wicket clean bowled and Tommy (3-32) took the next 2 bowled and LBW.  PW came on to try to tempt the in-form host batsman and it paid off.  After one delivery that went down leg-side with an attempted sweep, the same occurred next ball, this time with enough turn to clip the top of leg-stump to take an important wicket.  Umair (3-21) bowled an exquisite spell with some especially fast deliveries mixed in, and it was no surprise that he hit the stumps 3 times.  PW (2-19) claimed the last wicket when Simon took a sharp catch from a thick edge.  148 all out was a good performance on an excellent batting track.

David and Big Dog opened the reply with David (3) out early on attempted to drive over mid-off.  Tommy and Dog put on 78 for the next wicket with some hard hitting on anything loose.  Dog was eventually bowled for a commendable 41 which brought Hassan (16no) to the crease.  He continued his fine form with some delightful strikes to partner Tommy (54no).  Both looked very comfortable and brought the Wanderers home with plenty to spare.  DWCC win by 8 wickets.

MOM: PW – the all-important breakthrough.

Catch of the day: Simon off PW

Ironic comment of the day: Mike Moore shouting to the batsmen in the middle “calling” after a mix up nearly resulted in a run out.
