BELT @ Beaminster 19/05/19

Posted on by Simon

With storm clouds circling and several players unavailable David had to pull out of the game to deal with a major emergency.  Mark and Nipper opened the bowling after Simon elected to field first.  BELT helped with a couple of fielders.  Mark took a brilliant wicket with his first ball – very full, skiddy and with a hint of away movement hitting the base of middle and off.  The new batsman was a prize wicket and it took a great delivery from Nipper to remove him – pitching on leg the ball cut away to straighten and left the umpire with the unenviable decision to raise the finger.  Zee replaced Nipper and found a lot of in-swing and occasional away cutter.  However, his wicket came from a poor ball pitched halfway down on leg stump!  As the ball was travelling towards the square leg boundary, Mark took a splendid catch above his head.  All the more remarkable given that rain had been falling steadily for a few overs by now.  One of the BELT fielders played a key role in the run out before the game was paused for the rain and PW was unlucky not to have a wicket when the batsman went fully forward and missed it down leg-side, only for Simon to be beaten by the high bounce.  With the score on 112-4 with 35 minutes left, the rain stopped proceedings again and an early tea was taken in the hope the rain would go away.  It didn’t and got harder and more set in, causing the game to be abandoned.

MOM: Mark for a great catch.

Quote of the day: “Mike looks like the Michelin man” after he goes for additional jumpers during the rain break.
