Lobsters @ Cranborne 05/05/19
May 7, 2019The Wanderers elected to bat and started positively. David and Simon were scoring at over 6 an over, with Simon only hitting 2 singles during his innings. Simon (36) was out trying to guide the ball down to third man only to be caught brilliantly at slip. Jon came in at 3 and hopes of a good knock were dashed when he was undone by a great delivery just short of a length cutting down the hill. David (9) was undone by an almost identical ball and then Nipper was undone in the same manner second ball! Dane (16) battled hard before he was caught and Ali (5) found himself out of his ground with a sharp keeper standing up. Zee (11) couldn’t resist a big swing after the drinks break, getting an edge through to the keeper. Mike H and Luke scored 1 each while Jemma was last out leaving PW not out 0. 96 all out was a poor performance on a ground where 150 would have been par.
Ali was clearly struggling with an injury that prevented him from bowling effectively. Zee bowled well and was unlucky with several fielding mistakes – although no one could blame Luke for and excellent effort to take a low catch at pace, nor David getting a finger on one over his head. There were far too many errors in the field with such a low total on the board, and the game was quickly running away from the Wanderers. Zee’s (1-16) only wicket was a catch at slip for Nipper with a small touch off Simon’s glove taking the ball nicely onto Nipper’s testicles before ending up by his elbow! Jemma offered no words of comfort. David couldn’t find a rhythm and Luke was hit hard – although Luke did get a wicket when Simon spotted the batsman out of his ground and took a sharp stumping from 3 paces back! Jon was getting plenty of inswing and accounted for the opener off his pads and then a splendid catch from Ali gave Jon (2-14) a deserved second wicket. Ali got himself into the perfect position underneath the ball a made it look easy – it clearly was not. Lobsters won easily although it was a shame they were not able to get their young lads a chance to bat as they looked raring to go.
MOM: Simon – innings set the tone but needed more assistance.
Catch of the day: Ali.
Quote of the day: Simon “Where is Mike?” looking for Mike Henry to get padded up – he was fast asleep in the car as all good cricketers are before they go out to bat!
