Lobsters at Cranborne 6/5/18

Posted on by Simon

After some delightful lunchtime beers in the hot sunshine at the Drovers Inn, the Wanderers moved to Cranborne to begin the 2018 season.  The pre-match entertainment was the gas BBQ catching fire and needing a fire extinguisher to save the day!  Having elected to bat in a 32 overs a side contest, David (10) and Peter (60no) got the innings off to a speedy start hitting 15 from the opening 2 overs.  David was bowled by a ball moving considerably down the slope which brought Simon to join Peter.  Unfortunately Simon’s innings (10) was short and sweet adjudged LBW to another ball coming down the slope.  With Anwar, Luke, Mark and Pete W all going quickly, Mike H (6) and Peter built a small but important last wicket stand to use up a few overs.  119-7 (all out) was not too bad in the circumstances.

After tea (the music was still blaring out) Mark got the bowling off to a flying start.  With the first ball of the innings he took the outside edge of the opening bat which was well caught behind by Simon.  A few balls later it was 2 down with another delivery cutting viciously down the slope and taking off stump.  In Mark’s second over he repeated the same dismissal to leave the hosts 7-3 from the opening 3 overs.  Anwar was not getting any assistance from the ball and attempted some leg spin which was going well until he lost his length and was punished heavily.  David was unable to force a breakthrough and with runs running out Pete came on  He managed to get the captain down the track and Simon took the stumping, only for the umpire to call ‘not out’.  The batsman did the honerable thing and walked.  In Pete’s next over he took another stumping dismissal and it was becoming interesting.  However, the Lobsters still had their well in batsman going well after being dropped on the boundary by Anwar off Pete’s bowling.  Luke picked up 2 wickets but the Lobsters (with 11 batsmen to the Wanderers’8) managed to play though for the 3 wicket victory.  Ironically, once the game finished the music stopped!

MOM: Mark 3-15

Catch of the day: Simon on the first ball
