Wimborne and Colehill 27/08/17
August 29, 2017With the sun even stronger than the previous day, Simon again lost the toss and was asked to field on a hot afternoon in a new fixture at Wimborne and Colehill, which was a 36 overs match. Mark (1-27) (available again after work commitments) looked as difficult and dangerous as ever, even on such a fabulous batting track as was the case at the Lease. His wicket was shaping as an away swinger delivery only to cut back viciously and take the top of middle and off. It was no more then he and the Wanderers deserved. The next wicket was a sublime piece of fielding from Mike (on debut). A short single was called and he sprung into action and with devestating speed and accuracy secured a run out from 20 yards on the 45 degree angle. The 3rd wicket fell soon after when one of Jon’s (1-21) in-swingers seamed also and took the top of leg stump. At 43-3 the Wanderers were awaiting the arrival of Mike Henry (playing for Wimborne who were 1 short) but the middle order of the hosts had other ideas and started a splendid unbeaten 141 partnership. Mike J bowled with pace and acuracy but was unable to get the breakthrough. Luke struggled with his length and David did a good job of bowling at 2 in-form batsmen on a pitch that offered little assistance. 184-3 in 36 overs was a high total but not beyond the quality of the Wanderers.
Peter hit he opening bowler for 6 first ball but once Mike T (6) had been caught, Peter and Jon set about securing a solid partnership to base the innings on. Jon hit 3 sixes in his first 20 runs but then settled into a more calculating rythmn. Peter (39) was caught in the deep bringing Will to the crease. He never really settled and was LBW for 16 shortly afterwards. When Jon (41) was caught the score was on 104 with 14 overs left, so still only 6 an over required. Simon managed a quick fire 24 before fatigue got the better of him but at that stage only 40 was needed off 8 overs! Mike J (6), David (1) and luke (5) fell soon afterwards and Mike M (8no) and Pete (0no) saw out the remaining overs.
MOM: Jon
Catch of the day: With no catches held Mike J has the award for best fielding with a blistering run out.
