Compton House 13/06/17

Posted on by Simon

On a bright evening at Compton House, the Wanderers elected to bat in the first T20 of the year.  Tommy (8) fell in the 3rd over and Simon hit out straight away scoring 17 in 8 balls before he was bowled.  Anwaar (14) looked set for another fine innings before he skied one and was caught.  At this stage the run rate was fine (73 from 8 overs) but the number of wickets was always going to be a problem.  Peter H was the rock of the innings as wickets kept falling at the other end.  Matt (Peter’s friend) looked well set as did Paul F before they both fell LBW.  There was a very unpleasant exchange from the keeper and one of the bowlers at Simon after a wide was called which left an unpleasant taste in the mouth.  The Wanderers’ innings fell away towards the end and contained 5 ducks!  137 all out always looked to be 40 runs below par.

Mark bowled tidily but Ravi proved to be expensive.  Matt bowled well and looked the most likely to get wickets although this would require the Wanderers to start taking some catches.  None were teribly easy but overall 5 chances were missed.  Simon took a stumping to get him his wicket.  Paul and David weren’t able to stem the tide of runs and didn’t look like getting the breakthrough.  Tommy bowled well using the flight to entice two catches to Ravi and then a stumping from Simon – which ultimately brought in the batsman who was able to clear the boundary twice to ruin Tommy’s figures (4-0-20-3) and secure the game.  Anwaar, on a night away from study, bowled really well but even he was not able to stop the victory in the last over.

MOM: Peter

Catch of the day: Ravi
