Coombe Bissett 04/06/17

Posted on by Simon

After a quick lunchtime pint at the Drovers due to the early start, the hosts elected to bat first.  Mark (0-22) was again the pick of the bowlers with accurate line and length and a little movement off the near perfect wicket.  His figures were only dented in his last over which was stopped half way through due to a heavy rain shower that lasted for 30 minutes.  It was agreed at this point to reduce the overs to 35 per team.  Coombe Bissett were already 56-0 from 13 overs (in part due to a dropped catch by Simon off the opener off David’s bowling who, not before being dropped twice more, went on to score 126) and only lost the first wicket in the 26th over when Tom tossed one up a little more and the other opener played and missed.  David then got his man bowled before Ravi took a smart catch at square leg off Bob’s first ball – a leg side full toss!  The scoring did not let up and 233-3 was a good score.

Tom (36) had to leave early so started like he needed to get away and put on 64 for the opening stand with Ravi.  Adam (6) hit some good shots before his dismissal brought Simon in.  Simon was soon into his stride and despite being dropped twice and hitting upwards into gaps, the partnership (101) was advancing the total towards the asking amount.  With 10 an over required, but Ravi and Simon regularly hitting it, the hosts looked worried.  Eventually Simon (56) was caught at long-on sending in Charlie to bat briefly in his comeback game.  Bob (16no) played superbly using the pace of the ball with great effect.  Mike Moore was run out on the penultimate ball leaving David to fend off the last ball.  200-7 was a creditable effort.
