Thornford 21/05/17

On a return to Thornford after the reforming of the club, the Wanderers met in the Kings Arms for a terrific Sunday lunch!  The home team was invited to bat first and Ravi took the keeping gloves while Simon’s finger injury needs more time to heal.  Mark (3-41) was unlucky to conceed so many but the opening batsman was in attacking mood and runs were coming fast, 70 from the opening 10 overs!  Paul (1-31) also took some heavy hitting having taken over from Will at the playground end.  Peter had success in drawing the batsman down the track to claim a stumping with Ravi.  Next ball Mark took a catch at square-leg to leave Pete on a hatrick.  Unfortunately it went harmlessy down leg-side.  Meanwhile David was applying the brakes to the innings at the other end (8-2-12-1) before Bob came on to claim the last wicket.  Will finished with fantastic figures (6-2-18-2) with his dad taking a catch at mid-off in his guts!  His performance, and adapting to bowling up-hill for his second spell, was exemplory and the stand-out performance of the innings.

After a typically delicious Thornford tea, the Wanderers set about chasing 140 to win.  With Mike T and David going early, Ravi and Simon set about building a partnership against some accurate bowling.  Both gave some chances during the partnership of 64 but when Ravi (28) was bowled with the score only half way there.  Will came in and played superbly, playing away the straight balls and making singles to keep the strike moving.  Simon (83no), meanwhile, was hitting the short ball hard and finding boundaries in abundance.  Will (11) was eventually bowled and Mike H was caught attempting to drive over long-on to win the game.  It fell to Mike M to hit the winning run.

MOM: Will

Catch of the day: Paul – using all parts of his anatomy!
