Hazelbury Bryan 11/9/16

Posted on by Simon

With the Wanderers able to field 12 players again, Mike Moore kindly stepped over to play for Hazelbury who had 10 men.  The Wanderers were put into bat which gave Fred another opportunity to pass 1000 runs for the club.  On this occasion he managed it taking his innings to 44 before being caught.  In the mean time, Tommy (11) had fallen LBW and Simon had hit a very quick fire 24.  With Ravi (7) not looking his normal fluent batting, the pressure fell onto Anwar.  He too was scratching around unable to find his rhythm and when he was out for 12 (having seen Nick depart for 1 and Bob adjudged caught behind despite being nowhere near the ball!) the total was far from convincing at 132-7.  This is where a grand partnership worth 50 runs developed between Mike and David.  It was almost 33% scoring by each of them; David (18no), Mike (16) and extras!  With Mark coming in to get a quickfire 12 and Pete his customary 0 not out, the innings concluded at 197-9.  Top score was extras with a fine 50 (36 wides)!

The Wanderers were even more dominant with ball in hand.  Ravi took a wicket in the first over with a fine catch behind the stumps accounting for the opening bat.  Anwar was systematically pulling apart the home batting line up with a catch from Ravi, one bowled and the Hazelbury captain caught by David first ball.  By the time these two finished their 4 over spells, they had 3-8 and 1-12 respectively.  Nick took a wicket when Fred took control of a high shot that threatened to be reached by Mark.  Mark also got just reward for another superb spell of fast accurate bowling when Simon took another sharp chance behind the stumps.  Tommy got into the action taking 2-9 before Pete got in on the act with 2 wickets in just 5 balls; the first LBW and the second a fine catch looping over Nick’s head at extra cover.  In the end a crushing win for the Wanderers.

MOM: Fred – a key batting performance

Catch of the day: Nick to win the match
