Compton House T20 07/06/16
June 13, 2016On a sunny evening when the forecast had been predicting thunderstorms, the Wanderers elected to bat first on a truly magnificent batting surface. Simon and Roshan opened the batting and it was clear that anything over-pitched was available for hitting. After Roshan had been run out by Simon, Thomas (on his return after injury) came to the crease looking to attack where possible and got off the mark with a six over the short mid-wicket boundary. Thomas was bowled trying another hit to the short boundary which brought Anwaar in after his injury (car crash in Pakistan) and exams. He wasted no time in starting a great partnership with Simon. There weren’t many chances although both were dropped at long-on. Both were out in the last over, Anwaar running himself out and Simon caught on the long off boundary. The partnership was worth 137 and helped post a total of 188-4 in 20 overs.
Will (2-17) and Alec (1-27) opened the bowling with Will bowling the opener first ball! They bowled superbly and were backed up in the field by some great fielding. David was uncharacteristically expensive but there was a good performance from Roshan (1-14). Bob was desperately unlucky not to get the breakthrough with 4 chances going down in one over! When Mark came on to bowl the penultimate over, the batsmen were well set and managed to dispatch him for 23. With 1 over from Anwaar left to be bowled, 10 runs were required for victory. The tension mounted with each delivery and two yorkers for dot ball were priceless. A four to cow corner brought Compton within reach and required 2 to win off the last ball. Alec fielded at square leg and only 1 run was possible – a tie!!
Great entertainment.
MOM: Anwaar
