Pacific @ Hazelbury Bryan 05/06/16

Posted on by Simon

After an evening in the Digby Tap and a disagreement over a curry house bill, Pacific came to Hazelbury Bryan to play the Wanderers in another time fixture.  After electing to bowl, David and Will kept a tight start with the opening 8 overs going for 15 runs.  Alec bowled well in his spell (1-13) before Pete came on to get a wicket.  Paul entered the attack when the Pacific captain came out but without any luck on his side.  When David took the 4th wicket, the 2 Pacific danger men were again together at the crease.  Bob came on down the hill and Mark (2-25) from his usual end up the slope.  Although conceding some runs, Mark looked like getting a breakthrough and did so with one that rose slightly and caught the batsman on the glove and pad before being caught by Simon.  Bob then took the crucial wicket of Jon, LBW, playing across the line in front of the stumps. Bob was then left to torment the tail with smart figures of 7-1-17-4.  A great bowling and fielding performance reduced the opposition to just 139 all out in 42 overs.

Tea was superbly provided by Sarah before it was the turn of the Wanderers to chase an achievable total on a good surface – if a little slow.

Mike Moore was out bowled without troubling the scorers bringing Simon to the crease.  He was in good form before adjudged LBW to an in-swinger down the slope when well forward!  As he departed (with what turned out to be the highest score off the bat of 11) so too it seemed did the hope of victory.  Bob picked out the fielder at cover and Mike Tomms, Alec and Will all fell.  David was still in and was the rock of the innings, battling away for 32 overs for his 7 before he too picked out a fielder at mid-on.  Paul offered some resistance but Mike Henry (1st ball), Pete and Mark failed to score to leave the Wanderers all out for 64 in under 30 overs.  Top score was jointly wides and byes (thanks Jon).

MOM: David for a mamouth 15 overs bowling spell

Catch of the day: Mike Henry at extra cover.
