Lobsters @ Cranborne 08/05/16

Posted on by Simon

On a sunny day the Wanderers appeared at Cranborne for the first time.  Carl appeared for the wanderers guesting from the local team.  After electing to bat, David and Peter Hoar (on debut) had a superb opening stand of 59.  Mike Moore and Simon failed to get to grips with the pitch before Peter was eventually given out, rather dubiously, LBW for a wanderers record debut score of 80.  His solid defensive display was complemented by some aggressive attacking shots as his innings progressed.  Carl (26) played some good attacking shots and Bob (18) contributed late on.  152 was a good score but could have been more.

After a delightful tea, Mark (0-32) and David opened the attack.  Mark was unfortunate not to get any wickets but David was tight in his line and lenth giving very little away.  It was this pressure that forced the opening wicket off a short ball, the batsman struck firmly straight to Peter at cover who took a comfortable catch.  The second wicket for David fell in the next over and at 15-2 the Wanderers were in control.  However, with Hugh at the crease for Lobsters there is always a chance of some quality straight driving and he attacked both Carl and Peter hitting sixes into the car park!  Pete Wood had a catch dropped off his spell before Bob came on.  At 120-2, Lobsters were in comlete control cuising to victory.  Bob took a sharp c&b chance to break the partnership and then the next 5 batsmen were sent back to the pavillion without troubling the scorers by Bob (3-10) and David (coming back for a second spell).  David in particular was hitting the perfect line and length and achieved life-time best figures of 8-1-21-6.  The last 7 wickets fell for the cost of 5 runs!

A great performance all round.

MOM: David pipped Peter

Catch of the Day: Bob c&b
