Hazelbury Bryan 13/09/15

Posted on by Simon

With neither Thomas or Mark managing a breakthrough or to keep the runs down, it fell to Anwar (0-16 from 6) and Roshan(7-1-18-3)  to slow down the Hazelbury innings.  Simon took a smart catch from Roshan before an excellent catch at long-off by Mike Moore accounted for the Hazelbury skipper.  With Roshan getting the top 3 out, David and Pete got into the action.  David was again very difficult to get away on a slow pitch and his analysis (6.2-0-14-2) proved what an asset a consistent line can prove in these conditions.  Pete, though, was the pick of the lot.  With his low trajectory and hint of leg-spin, he was not only difficult to score from but deadly also.  Mark took a quite stunning catch at cow-corner before Pete took a great return catch.  With the pressure building, Anwar took a fine catch before 2 LBWs finished the innings at 108 all out.

In reply, after 7 overs the score was 7-2 – Mike Moore choosing the wrong delivery to try to hit out of the ground and Thomas bowled.  David and Anwar shared a partnership worth 57 before Anwar was caught.  Mike Toms and Adi failed to score and Simon came in to face a hat-trick ball!  Simon (6) ran out David (6) and then was c&b through indecision as to whether to attack or defend.  Bob and Roshan shared a brilliant 19 partnership to bring the team 12 behind when Roshan (8) was bowled.  Mark came in and played very sensibly with Bob, picking up singles and extras whenever possible (extras was top score with 30!).  With 2 balls left of the match, the Wanderers were 1 run behind with Bob on strike.  A clever dead bat shot from Bob enabled a quick single to bring the scores level leading into the last ball.  Mark was on strike and had a go at the ball but missed!  Fortunately, it missed the stumps and was missed by the wicket-keeper to allow Bob through for the winning bye!  A superb finish to the match (and subsequently the season) and well played everyone.

Catch of the day: Spoilt for choice – Mike Moore, it was so significant and tricky.

MOM: Roshan – a great all round performance.
