On another beautiful August Sunday, Wanderers travelled to Babcary, home of David and Charles Pitt, to take on the reincarnated Babcary Cricket Club. Babcary won the toss and had a bat. David Shardlow (24), Eddie Roberti (31) and Jamie Hepburn (20) took up the early running, but it was Ed Squire with a powerful 81 not out and support from the lower order who drove Babcary to a good total of 224 for eight in their 35 overs. Pick of the bowlers were Gary Clulee with four for 37, and visiting Kiwi Pro Holland with three for 22.

After a picnic on the veranda, Wanderers set off after their target. Simon Jones appeared to have had a vindaloo for tea as he came out of the traps firing hard. Chris Chambers and Andy Thompson were bowled early by the excellent Jamie Hepburn (seven overs, two for 20) but Simon and Garry then took the fight to Babcary in fine fashion, striking boundaries all around the ground .

The turning point of the game came when Skip was caught and bowled above his head by Paul Cuff for 81 and Bretty was caught in the same over. Ed Squire then settled into an excellent spell of spin bowling (seven overs, three for 57) to work through the remaining Wanderers batting.

Wanderers were eventually dismissed for 176 with Holland stranded on 23 not out, and both sides repaired to the garden of the Red Lion for a very convivial evening.

Man of the match: Skipper, 81 rapid runs almost broke the game open

Result: Babcary win by 48 runs
